Transitions and Transformations

The Hub is part of our four-year Transitions and Transformations: Black Researcher’s Journey project. We were really thrilled to be one of just 13 projects across England which were funded by Research England – part of UK Research and Innovation – and the Office for Students.

These projects are seen as absolutely vital to tackling persistent inequalities that create barriers for Black, Asian and minority ethnic students to access and take part in postgraduate research and research and scientific careers.

We created “Transitions and Transformations” in partnership with Black academics and alumni, to specifically address the challenges and barriers faced by Black students.

Even before this project, we’ve been a member of the Race Equality Charter (REC) since 2017 and we’ve been developing initiatives and solutions to support our institutional application which we anticipate submitting in July 2023. As part of this process, we’re undertaking a full evaluation of race equality across the University and working with the University community to develop a four-year institutional action plan.
